Nice to e-meet you.

Hi, I'm Vaibhav.

Nice to e-meet you.

Not the resume version. Not the LinkedIn one. This is the page I'd want someone to read if they actually wanted to know me.

My everyday

I keep plants. More than I probably need. There's something grounding about something that grows slowly, quietly, on its own schedule. It doesn't care that you had a bad day.

I notice kerning on restaurant menus. I notice when a chair is the wrong height for the table. I notice the pause before someone says they're fine. These aren't habits I chose, they're just how my brain works, and I've stopped trying to turn it off.

Most mornings start with a walk before the sunrise, It's a totally different world when most of the people are asleep. I'm based in Noida; which sounds unremarkable until you've been here long enough to love it.

how i think

I got into value investing the same way I got into most things I love, through a rabbit hole I didn't plan to fall into. What kept me there wasn't the money. It was the discipline of it. The way it forces you to sit with uncertainty and resist the urge to act just to feel like you're doing something.

I think that's the most useful thing I've ever learned: slow down when everything says hurry. Look harder when everyone else has already looked and moved on. The answer is usually in the thing nobody wanted to look at closely.

Typography is another version of the same obsession. A typeface is a personality before a single word is read. I can't unsee it. I don't want to.

"Pay close attention to what's actually happening — not just what you expect to see."

I root for underdogs

Always have. I don't fully understand where it comes from, maybe it's the value investing part of me that believes most things are mis priced, including people.

I'm drawn to the founder nobody's covering yet. The team that just lost three in a row but plays like they believe. The typeface no one's using. The idea that sounds a little too early.

There's something electric about watching someone prove the room wrong. I want to be in that room. I want to have bet on them before it was obvious.

"Most things are mis priced, including people."

I have a tattoo. I sat with the idea for a long time before I got it, long enough to know I wasn't doing it for anyone else.

Something about putting something permanent on your body makes you honest. You can't hedge. You can't wait to see how it lands. You just decide, and then you live with it, and eventually it stops feeling like a decision and just feels like you.

I think about that a lot. The things worth doing are usually the ones you'd still want even if no one ever knew.

the things i have, want and need

An honest inventory. The things around me say something about what I value, and the ones I haven't bought yet say something too.
